Booking a trip often proves to be an extremely stressful, gruelling task. You can spend hours online searching for deals on flights, hotels and tours – bouncing from one website to another in pursuit of the perfect price.
This process is often headache-inducing, not to mention frustrating, which could eventually lead to insomnia and heaven knows what other medical instabilities.
The internet has evolved enormously over the years with a variety of travel products available for immediate purchase, cutting out the middle-man. Customers lured by convenience and promises of the best deals are booking more trips online. Direct-consumer websites make planning your holiday simple and effortless. These sites are often transparent and you get what you pay for with a click of a button. The question is: “Are online bookings always the better way to go?”
Well my answer is “that depends on the traveller and the type of trip.” The more components, (hotel, transfers, plane tickets, etc.) you add to your trip the better it would be for you to consider a travel expert.
A travel agent is a perfect fit for:
• First-time explorers.
• The ‘elaborate’ traveller, those that do not want to deal with complications of planning a trip.
• The ‘time–less’ traveller, one who has minimal or no time for research.
• The ‘indecisive’ traveller, those that cannot decide, which destination to next but “I just need a holiday” type of personality.
As a travel agent, I provide a dimension to the travel industry that the industry is currently lacking, thus making my services unique and extraordinary (besides the fact that I was born to do this profession – it is in my DNA after all). Not to mention, it’s an ideal ice-breaker topic. Let’s face it, who does not like to or have the desire to travel?
Generally, people yearn for human interaction. A travel agent can assist with making your experience come true, to visit your desired destination and stay in an upmarket or affordable hotel, take a cruise or become part of a town tour to discover new food, people and cultures. There’s nothing like walking into an agency and talking to someone who has been there!
There are many good reasons why you need someone like me. Travel agents are well informed and it is our business to know more than you do by always keeping the finger on the pulse to better connect travellers. A travel agent has access to benefits you can’t get otherwise and they can often beat any other prices available (even online, yes). And after you have planned everything, they provide reassurance before, during and after your trip that you simply won’t get by an online booking. Having an experienced travel agent can also make you an instant VIP! Yip a VIP… free room upgrades, no lines no fuss for restaurant reservations, access to otherwise close stores and exhibits, private guides, and cheaper premium airfares.
To be clear, I am talking about true specialists, the really good travel agents who add value and more importantly, a personal commitment. The best travel agents are essentially consultants, and many of us prefer “travel advisor,” because it is our recommendation, expertise, and connections that are of great value coupled with simple human interaction.
“Once we get to know each other, the time I save them is invaluable to them. When the client places full trust in me once, then they become clients for life.”
Individuals are of the understanding that it is easy as pie to book flights, hotels, or car rentals themselves, and in most cases you can. But what happens when your flight is cancelled or your car rental was not confirmed correctly and you are standing in a line waiting to be rebooked? Believe me, at that time you will wish you had a travel agent. Travel agents can advise you on things that you won’t necessary pick up yourself like “maybe wait a week flights will be cheaper”, or “fly this way and get a stopover deal, etc.”
There are many services that a travel agent can provide. These services are still very valuable to many travellers. As evolved as we are there are some people that still do not have access to the internet (so will probably not read this article), or are not computer savvy or just plain don’t have any idea where to start. And trust me there will always be the individuals who will make contact and say…“I want to go somewhere warm. Any ideas?”
This is why you need me, in this age of the internet and dot.com trends.
